After years of rapid growth to take advantage of subsidies that were ending in 2021, the offshore wind market sailed into calmer waters this year. This is the time that the market consolidates, the weak players are separated from the strong, and for the strong players increasing efficiency is necessary to reduce operating cost and to ensure profitability.

It may feel counterintuitive to upgrade equipment in a slowing market, but Shanghai Tongsheng realized early on that this was exactly what was necessary. At the end of one of the most profitable installation seasons, the company decided to invest in new hydraulic vibratory equipment so that in a year of slow business like 2022, they would be able to work cost effectively on their projects.

A first easy first step was to upgrade the companies electric vibro hammers to reliable hydraulic ICE 250NF hammers. The main difference between electric and hydraulically driven vibratory hammers is the rotation speed of the eccentric weights. Hydraulic vibro’s can operate at up to 50% higher RPM; higher rpm has the benefit of better liquefaction of the soil, allowing for faster driving and extracting times. The ICE vibratory hammer has the additional advantages of low self-weight, ease of operation, high up-time.
