  • Steel Foundations for Retrofitting of Apartments with Elevators

One of the stimulus measures promoted by China's Two Sessions parliamentary meeting immediately caught our eye! Installing elevators in older residential compounds brings convenience to residents, and also allows the elderly to live independently for longer in their own familiar surroundings when their mobility is reduced in old age. We can learn from STEC experience driving elevator foundations for pedestrian overpasses in Shanghai in 2022. STEC pioneered the steel foundation for the elevators, driven without disturbance by ICE resonance free vibratory hammers.

Steel foundations driven with resonance free vibratory hammers from ICE have been chosen for the following reasons:

Quiet – the equipment used stays within permitted sound levels and is a constant noise which doesn’t excessively irritate nearby residents during the quietest time of the day or night

Safe – the piles are driven by high frequency resonance free vibratory hammer which is safe to use close to metro and utility tunnels.

Fast – vibro driving of each pile takes just a few minutes, several welders work simultaneously to finish the job.

Not obstructive – the piles and hammer are hoisted by a truck crane, which typically takes up little space.

Clean – there is no need to clean up, so this bentonite and concrete free foundation method is very suitable for quick installation.

For the elevator foundations we recommend using steel piles with a diameter of 450-700mm. The piles can be driven with excavator mounted hammer such as 8RFSH or a free hanging 20RF or 28RF hammer lifted by a mobile truck crane. The pile length should be decided by the designer, with friction pile foundations made up of shorter sections welded together for easy transport and handling in heavily built up urban areas. The foundation can be made up of 3-5 piles depending on needs.

This foundation type is a good method for installing residential elevators too. Contact ICE today to check the feasibility of your ideas upgrading inner city residential compounds! We have hammers in all size that can get your job done with help of a mobile truck crane or excavator mounted solution.
