The start of the construction at Jungong Road Elevated highway last week is another step in marking the success of prefabricated highway construction and steel foundations first introduced by Shanghai Chengtou Group at Shanghai’s Jiamin Highway.

Jungong Road will see 1531 steel foundation piles with a total length of 100.000m installed. This is the biggest scale of steel foundation implementation so far. The elevated highway will run along subterranean gas and utility lines and in most places the width of the construction site is a mere 16 meters. So what else is new at this project? Shanghai Urban Construction and Municipal Engineering Group has divided the 60m long piles into two sections, which means upending and positioning the ICE 50RF hammer on the 700mm diameter pile is quite challenging. The Pile Lifting Device allows the project team to ensure quick positioning of the hammer on the pile. The Pile Lifting Device upends the pile and then lifts it into the clamps, this means positioning is a fluid motion, no time is lost in positioning the hammer and lowering it until it clamps around the pile rim.

The chains are connected to the Pile Lifting Device’s winch. The winch is powered by the ICE 1600 power pack and controlled by remote control. When the chain is pulled the pile moves into the clamp jaws.


The Pile Lifting Device is especially recommended for long piles with narrow diameters.

FAQ:

Why doesn't ICE design smaller clamps? The ICE 50RF is compact but very powerful, the clamps transfer the full 290t eccentric force of the hammer to the pile and require a clamping force that exceeds the ICE 50RF’s eccentric force with a safety factor of 1.2. The 175TC clamp set gives 350t clamping force and is therefore the best choice for the job.
