Vibratory hammers are dependent on a crawler or truck crane for lifting, driving and extracting.

Normal frequency vibratory hammers such as the 416L815C and 1412C are suspended from 50t to 135t crawler cranes.  The boom on these crawler cranes is sturdy enough to withstand the low frequency vibrations of the vibro during start up and shut down. Crawler cranes have both advantages and disadvantages depending on their use. Their main advantage is that they can move around on site and perform each lift with little set-up, since the crane is stable on its tracks with no outriggers. In addition, a crawler crane is capable of traveling with a hammer suspended from its hook in mid-air. The crawler crane’s main disadvantage is that it is very bulky in size and weight, so that it cannot easily be moved from one job site to another without significant expense. Typically a large crawler must be disassembled and transported on a flatbed trailer.

Truck cranes are more mobile, but few operators will risk damaging their hydraulic telescope boom with the low frequency of a regular vibro during start-up and shut down. The ICE range of resonance free vibro’s have no such vibrations during start up and shut down and will therefore not damage the hydraulic boom of a truck crane. Truck cranes have a smaller foot print and are also more mobile on the road, ensuring quick access to crowded or highly urbanized sites. A set up with a truck crane require less time to set up. Opting for a hammer from the ICE RF range, such as the 20RF or 28RF, will give you an agile tool for your next piling project.
