August 2012, Neptune Offshore Engineering Development rented the 815C vibratory hammer for a piling project at Yuedong Oil field. Neptune was awarded the contract to build the riser pipes on a manmade island constructed above the Yuedong oilfield. The Yuedong Oilfield is part of CNPC's Liaohe Oilfield, and has a proven crude oil reserves estimated at 62.8 million metric tons.

The project consisted of a total of 54 riser pipes, each with a total length of 60 meters and made up of welded steel pipe sections. The contractor chose to drive the first two sections to a depth of 28 meters with the 815C vibratory hammer; completing the job with a diesel hammer. Shanghai ICE engineering department recommended the
815C hammer, driven by the wirelessly controlled 600RF power pack for the job. The hammer was fitted with a pair of 81TC caisson clamps which at a combined clamping force of 1600kN ensure safe driving operation of the 582mm wide pipes.

The project was located on reclaimed land, formed by sand spraying and therefore the soil conditions were ideal for high frequency hydraulic vibratory hammers. Each 16m section of riser pipe was driven to depth within 2 minutes; as a result the load on the
engine as well as the diesel consumption were both very low.

The site manager and the operator team were very satisfied with the performance of the hammer. The vibrating principle ensured the top sections of the riser pipe were driven at high speed and great accuracy, but without impact damage to the pile cap that can occur with diesel hammers. The wireless remote allowed the operator to get near to the pile and adjust the driving speed from up close, allowing for maximum control. ICE proved its pile driving solution as a safe and efficient method.

The ICE power pack uses the most advanced engine technology to ensure high efficiency and low emissions. Tianjin Neptune praised the hammers fuel efficiency and the ease of use of the equipment through wireless remote control or through the onboard iQan computer.
